Making Sure Your Family and Valued Possessions Are Safe

1. Stow Your Irreplaceable Valuables
Having your luxury RV or motorhome is also a concern, but more than often, break-ins will be the more than likely occurrence. Prior to leaving your motorhome for any extended period of time, take a moment and survey your belongings to see which items you have sitting out that will be interesting to a burglar, like laptop computers, tablets, jewelry and other items. Simply putting items away when you leave, can save you hours of heart ache, should a break-in happen. So take the time to place them in a drawer, cabinet or someplace that can be locked away.
2. Learn About the Place You Intend to Stay
Along with all the other items on your research list, looking up the crime rate for your destination will help you greatly prepare. So, while you are plotting the hours, route, prices and amenities for your luxury motorhome during the trip, assessing the crime rate will help your decision process. Regardless if your destination is in the city or an out-of-the-way place, it’s good to prepare as safely as you can. After seeing the crime rate, you may need to adjust what parts of your original destination you will visit and finding a place that would not be as great of a threat. Avoiding high-crime areas is the best defense against becoming a victim.
3. Keep It Locked
Keeping your belongings locked away may seem obvious, but often, it is so easily overlooked. Most people tend to forget to use the lock and key when they are having a great time and forget to stop and think about securing the RV. The best practice is to get in the habit of locking your RV regardless of the length of time you will be away from the vehicle. It’s best to carry all the keys with you and, most importantly, don’t leave a copy of your keys with anyone you don’t know.
4. Does Your RV Have a Fire Extinguisher?
Sometimes, not every problem is caused by thieves. Fire should be at the top of the list for all RVers. It can easily destroy any luxury RV or motorhome in a matter of minutes. Simply equipping your RV with fire extinguishers and smoke detectors can help eliminate the possibility of a fire in your motorhome or RV getting completely out of control. It’s best to set a schedule to inspect the extinguishers and detectors frequently to make sure they are functioning correctly.
5. Invest in Property Insurance
After all the steps are taken to secure your property and checking for fire hazards and extinguishers, it is not always within your control to stop all break-ins or fires. However, should the unfortunate happen, the comfort of knowing that you can have the monetary value of your belongings replaced is comforting. Needless to say, nothing can replace the sentimental value of some belongings that are stolen or damaged. So, if you need a policy, please take a look at our Lazydays Premier RV Insurance Center to learn about coverage options.
