The Airstream camper is a classic piece of American history, and the Grand Canyon is probably the most iconic road trip destination in the country. Fire up your Airstream this summer, whether it’s a classic or brand new, and cruise to the Grand Canyon for a good old American road trip you’ll never forget.
Things to Do at the Grand Canyon
Peering over the cliffs of the Grand Canyon is definitely the most awe-inspiring activity you can do at the park, but there are tons of other adventures to experience too. Take part in a three-hour mule trip along the canyon rim, walk the Trail of Time, rent a bike and hit the trails, take a helicopter tour, venture into the museums on rainy days or head out on a day hike to see some of America’s most breathtaking sights while breaking a sweat.
Summer days can be hot at Grand Canyon National Park, so you may want to try an activity that gets you wet. Join a whitewater or smoothwater rafting trip on the Colorado River and experience the canyon from within. The Grand Canyon is also loaded with scenic swimming holes that serve as cool refuges on hot days.
Visiting the Park
The Grand Canyon welcomes visitors during all times of the year, but summer is certainly the busiest season. Most people visit the South Rim, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is highly recommended that you make a camping reservation, whether you’re visiting in spring, summer or fall.
The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is more difficult to reach, and the season only lasts from May 15 to Oct. 15. Campground reservations are also recommended for this part of the canyon that reaches over 8,000 feet in elevation.
Vehicle permits to Grand Canyon National Park cost $30 per vehicle. Campground fees range from about $12 per night to $25 per night, so call ahead to make a reservation and find out your desired campground’s fee.
